Private Label Sunshade Packaging

Edited by LesomTech

Packaging is part of the product specification, not a last step after the shade is approved. A retail-ready program needs a defined selling unit, artwork files, barcode data, language requirements and a master carton that protects the goods in the chosen shipping mode.

LesomTech manufactures automotive sunshades in its own factory and produces private-label programs from 100 pieces per style. The production MOQ applies to the agreed style; ask whether packaging materials, printing plates or special tooling carry separate minimums and lead times, and have those stated in the quotation.

Use this guide to prepare a packaging brief that can be sampled and approved before bulk printing. Final artwork, language and barcode content remain the buyer's responsibility; the supplier should confirm the dieline, material, print method and pack-out against the approved sample.

1. Define the retail unit and pack-out

Decide whether the customer receives one shade, a left/right pair or a vehicle set. List every item in the retail unit, including fittings, storage bag, instructions and any insert. The packaging dieline must match that list; a carton designed for a single panel will not fit a set without changing the pack-out.

Record the pack quantity per retail unit and per master carton. Confirm whether an inner carton is required, how units are protected from movement, and whether the pack must stand, hang or stack on a retail shelf. These choices affect dimensions, material weight and carton compression strength.

2. Review artwork, language and market requirements

Send print-ready artwork with dielines, bleeds, colour references and font files where required. Keep the approved artwork version under revision control. Do not assume that a domestic label is accepted in every destination market; confirm the language, importer details, warnings and recycling symbols required for each market with the buyer's compliance team.

Put barcodes and regulatory marks in the planned positions before printing. Check the barcode symbology, nominal size, quiet zone and scan grade on the proof, not only on a screen. If the buyer supplies a barcode or label, ask the supplier to confirm the file, placement and whether variable data will be printed or applied.

3. Prototype the pack before bulk printing

Ask for a physical pre-production sample using the intended material and print method. Fill it with the actual product and fittings, close it as a customer would, and review the fit, folds, seams, window patches and print registration. A digital proof cannot confirm how the pack survives handling or how the product sits inside.

Include the master carton in the review. Check the opening method, label placement, shipping marks and the packed weight. For export orders, agree whether a drop, compression or transport test is required and which protocol applies; do not describe a pack as "export tested" without the report and the tested configuration.

4. Lock the specification and reorder data

After approval, record the packaging specification: material and grammage, dimensions, print colours, finish, barcode data, language version, pack quantity, carton dimensions and gross weight. Attach the approved artwork and physical sample reference to the purchase order.

Any change to the shade, fittings, artwork, language or pack quantity can change the dieline and carton data. Request a new proof and, where needed, a new sample before production. On repeat orders, confirm that the current artwork and packaging revision still match the approved record.
